Scoters are mostly ducks of the ocean coast or the Great Lakes, but they occasionally show up on area lakes and reservoirs during the winter and migration.

DISTRIBUTION

In Park: The single park record is of an immature bird in the sewage treatment ponds in Cades Cove, mid-November 1989. Another immature bird was seen two miles outside of the park in January of 1942 near Townsend, Tennessee.
