Invertebrate Biodiversity Study
Written by Judy Dulin

  • Goal: To collect and identify the greatest number of species
  • At right, the use of a beat sheet, used to collect insects, is demonstrated . One person holds the beat sheet, while the other person "beats" the branches and holds the aspirator.

BioQuest Point Value System:
+1 for each phylum, class, order or family name (example: Araneae)
+2 for each more specific names (example: Wolf Spider)
+3 for each scientific name (example: Lycosas lenta)
-1 for being loud
-2 not working cooperatively
-3 for killing invertebrates
-1 for being outside the plot
-1 not putting back logs, rocks, or other natural items
-5 for litter in the plot
