Dajoz 2004 Beetle Collection
Dajoz 2004 Beetle Collection
This is a continuation of 2001 field collection. In 2004 we continued studying ground and saproxylic beetles. The ecology of ground beetles has been studied by comparing the populations of different habitats: open areas and forest. Parts of the data collected are in a paper: 'Soil Coleoptera in three localities in the Southern Appalachians (North Carolina and Tennessee); structure and biodiverisity of the communities and description of three new species of Carabidae' (submitted). Our study of the biology of saproxylic beetles has been focused on species belonging to different families and environments. Two papers: 'Note on the biology of Galerita janus', and 'Coleopteraliving under the bark of the red maple', have been submitted. Another paper dealing with the beetles of sap flow is almost completed. Specimens of characteristic species have been prepared for the Park collection.
